
On July 15, 2025 – Gitlax̱t’aamiks Village Government hosted a visit/tour for the 2025 Listening Tour Nation Visit. This visit was in collaboration with the Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government.
The visitors included Hon. Raj Chouhan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Kate Ryan-Lloyd, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, Taylor Grant, Manager of Client Services and Public Policy at Sedgwick Strategies, and Tanya Corbet, Vice President and Director of Client Services at Sedgwick Strategies.
The visit focused on updating the Nation on the reconciliation work completed to date and future activities listed in the Reconciliation Action Plan. The intent of the visit to New Aiyansh was to experience the culture, learn about community initiatives, and collect feedback on how the B.C. Legislature can be more welcoming to indigenous nations.
The visit to the community of New Aiyansh included tours of the Interpretive Centre, Community Smokehouse, Community Garden, Fish Plant conducted by Eric Grandison and brief overview of the community history, ongoing projects and completed projects by Darlene Morgan, GVG CAO in the Council Chambers. The smokehouse crew provided preserves made from this year of canned salmon, canned t’ibin (sealion), ḵ’ayukws (dried fish strips), and shavings of wa’ums (devils club).
